A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the area until 9 p.m.
Initial activity can pop-up mid afternoon, but scattered coverage is more likely late in the day and into this evening. While a few of these storms can contain gusty winds, it's the flooding risk that has a bit more potential to cause issues. The moist air mass in place will help support torrential downpours with heavy rainfall rates of 1 - 2" per hour.
Something to consider is that even with lower gusts in a storm, wet grounds can lead to a downed tree risk. Showers and storms eventually taper off later this evening.
