As the Wilmington Police Department continues its monthly Community Resource Fair series, our next program will be held indoors on Thursday, September 10 from 4-6 p.m. at the William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center (501 North Madison Street).
In collaboration with our victim services partners – including the Delaware Victims’ Rights Task Force and the WPD Victim Services Unit – this month’s program will include our annual Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.
“Each year, we look forward to collaborating with our partners and integrating the annual Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims into our September Community Resource Fair,” said Chief Wilfredo Campos. “Victim services professionals in Wilmington and throughout Delaware provide exceptional assistance and compassionate support to those affected by crime and violence, and we are proud to support them - as well as this important annual tribute.”
This program will include a range of partner organizations offering free resources to the public, as well as victim services groups and others seeking to support individuals and families who have been affected by crime and violence.
“Each September, we come together to observe the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims and to honor the lives of those we have lost to violence,” said Jennifer Kutney-Soper, Chair of the Victims’ Rights Task Force, and Victim Services Specialist at the Delaware Department of Justice. “This annual gathering is an opportunity to remember each victim not simply by how their life ended, but by the people they loved, the lives they touched, and the lasting place they hold in their families and communities. We invite the community to join us in honoring their memories, standing alongside surviving family members and friends, and reflecting on the impact violence has on all of us. We are grateful to once again partner with the Wilmington Police Department to bring our community together for this important day of remembrance and reflection.”
In addition to bringing together social service, public health, governmental and nonprofit partners for this two-hour event, we will also organize a Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims program beginning at 5:30 p.m., with speakers and a presentation.
Since the launch of monthly Community Resource Fair series in 2023, events have been held at the Police Athletic League of Wilmington, the William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center, the MSK Community Center, Latin American Community Center, Ezion-Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Helen Chambers Park, Cool Springs Park, Haynes Park, Judy Johnson Park, Herman Holloway, Sr. Park, Kosciuszko Park, Tilton Park, Kirkwood Park and Joe White Memorial Park.
This event is free and open to the public, and there will be food and plenty of public safety-related giveaways.
