Gilroy Police Arrest Adult Male for Inappropriate Online Communications with a Minor

The Gilroy Police Department arrested Damon Jon Luecke, 53, of Gilroy, in connection with an investigation involving alleged inappropriate online communications with a minor.

The investigation began in late July 2026 after Gilroy Police were notified of concerning social media communications between Luecke and a juvenile. During the investigation, detectives identified communications indicating Luecke was aware of the juvenile’s age and subsequently met with the juvenile.  As part of the investigation detectives obtained multiple search warrants for electronic devices and online accounts. Evidence obtained identified Luecke as the suspect.

On August 7, 2026, Gilroy Police detectives arrested Luecke without incident and served a search warrant at Luecke’s residence.  Luecke was arrested for alleged violations including contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense, arranging a meeting with a minor, possession of child sexual abuse material, and annoying or molesting a minor.

As part of the continuing investigation, detectives learned Luecke is currently employed as a Staff Analyst with the San Benito County Probation Department. Investigators also learned Luecke previously worked for approximately 16 years with the San Mateo County Probation Department.  Luecke was assigned as a juvenile corrections/counselor at the Boys Ranch from October 2006 until October 2014.  From October 2014 until December 2020 Luecke worked on an IT project until retuning to the role of juvenile corrections/counselor in December 2020.  Luecke remained in this position until retiring in March 2023.

Because Luecke's prior employment placed him in contact with juveniles, investigators are seeking to identify anyone who may have had similar or concerning interactions with him.

Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Luecke, is encouraged to contact Detective Michael Cupak [email protected] or Sergeant Kenneth Ellsworth [email protected] with the Gilroy Police Department Investigations Unit at (408)846-0368.
