The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 2026:
 
6:39 AM Officer Heckman conducted a vehicle theft investigation near Bellflower Dr & Birch St. The vehicle was later recovered by a nearby agency without the license plates.
 
7:40 AM Officer Heckman responded to a vandalism and fight reported near Cedar Blvd & Birch St. A 39-year-old female was arrested for elder abuse and vandalism. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:31 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a stolen credit card with fraudulent charges reported near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave involving unauthorized transactions.
 
1:49 PM Officer Lor investigated a mail theft report near Bayshores Ave & Willow St. Several articles of mail were reported missing over a few weeks. There was no mailbox tampering or damages located.
 
TUESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2026:
 
12:40 AM Officer Norvell responded to a public intoxication incident near Thornton Ave & Ruschin Dr. A 37-year-old male was arrested for public intoxication. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:05 AM Officer Germano investigated a hit and run incident near Balentine Dr & Mowry School Rd.
 
5:32 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a cellphone theft reported near Alpenrose Ct & Mowry Ave. The phone was later recovered and returned to the owner.
 
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5, 2026:
 
4:10 AM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to a report of a suspicious person checking vehicles in the area of Bishop St & Musick Ave.
 
5:10 AM Officer Felix responded to several vehicle burglaries reported near Mowry Ave & Cedar Blvd. Reported losses included petty cash, a lighter and various personal items.
 
3:05 PM Officer Benjamin conducted a pedestrian stop near Stevenson Blvd and Encyclopedia Cir. A 39-year-old male was cited for possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
 
3:52 PM Officer Gonzalez-Alvarez responded to a dispute reported near Newark Blvd & Cedar Blvd. The crime was unsubstantiated through investigation.
 
4:09 PM Community Service Officer (CSO) Mora investigated a vehicle theft reported near Saint Christopher Wy & Saint Mary St.
 
THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 2026:

6:52 AM Officer Johnson investigated a vehicle theft reported near Haley St & Mayhews Landing Rd. The vehicle was later recovered nearby. Damage was noted on the driver side door handle and the front of the vehicle.
 
7:50 AM CSO Lau investigated a license plate theft incident near Joaquin Murieta Ave & Cherry St.
 
8:42 AM Officer Benjamin arrested a 31-year-old male for an outstanding warrant near Cedar Ct & Daylily St. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:41 PM CSO Lau investigated a vehicle theft reported near Graham Ave & Sycamore St.
 
12:50 PM Officer C. Torres was dispatched to a report of check forgery that occurred near Sycamore St & Central Ave.
 
2:18 PM Officer Johnson investigated a vehicle with false registration near Robertson Ave & Rockspray St. The license plates were removed and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
 
3:25 PM Officer C. Torres was dispatched to a weapon brandishing incident reported near Cedar Blvd & Newpark Pl.
 
10:16 PM Officer Gonzalez-Alvarez responded to an arson incident reported near Wells Ave & Spruce St.
 
10:54 PM Officer Germano responded to a domestic violence incident near Dijon Dr & Mayhews Landing Rd. A 41-year-old female was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 2026:
 
4:37 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a window smash vehicle burglary near Elm St & Thornton Ave. The glovebox was rummaged through.
 
2:40 PM Officer Johnson investigated a vehicle theft reported near Joaquin Murieta Ave & Cherry St.
 
3:43 PM CSO Mora responded to a mail theft incident reported near Newark Blvd & Civic Terrace Ave.
 
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2026:
 
11:09 AM Officer Heckman investigated a catalytic converter theft reported near Starflower St & Camass Ct. A sawz-all blade was discovered lodged into the vehicle.
 
3:07 PM Officer S. Torres arrested a 36-year-old male for possession of narcotics and violation of probation near Thornton Ave & Ruschin Dr. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:15 PM Officer Orozco conducted a traffic stop near Newark Blvd & Fair Ave after seeing a vehicle driving the wrong way. A 34-year-old male was arrested for DUI, driving on a suspended license, and possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
10:00 PM Officer Kim responded to a domestic disturbance near Sea Bank St & Estuary St. A 19-year-old male was arrested for domestic violence and resisting arrest. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2026:
 
6:47 AM Officer Lor investigated a suspicious vehicle reported near Birch St & Bitterroot Ave. A vehicle with a tampered steering column, damaged ignition, and a stolen license plate was towed from the scene.
 
7:42 AM Officer Lomeli conducted a vehicle theft investigation near Cotton Ave & Cherry St.
 
9:28 AM Officer Lor investigated a vandalism of a vehicle near Olive St & Thornton Ave. The tires of the vehicle were discovered slashed.
 
9:30 AM Officer Heckman responded to a vehicle collision reported near Cherry St & Moores Ave. A 45-year-old female was arrested for DUI. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:45 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle theft near Newark Blvd & Cedar Blvd. The vehicle was later recovered nearby with the front passenger window shattered and personal items taken.

10:52 AM Officer Lor investigated a license plate theft near Newark Blvd & Civic Terrace Ave.
 
7:28 PM Officer Stevenson responded to a hit and run collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle near Baine Ave & Cherry St.
 
7:35 PM Officer Orozco responded to Newark Blvd & Cedar Blvd investigate a vehicle driving erratically in a parking lot. A 48-year-old male was arrested for DUI and driving on a suspended license. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail. K9 Officer Losier investigated a road rage dispute in the area.
 
7:53 PM Officer Shaffer investigated a shoplifting incident reported near Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave.
