"The Newark Department of Public Safety offers its deepest condolences to the family of the victim fatally struck on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Bloomfield Avenue and Mt. Prospect Avenue.
“The loss of a life due to a motor vehicle crash is always tragic and heartbreaking. However, the dissemination of false information regarding such an incident results in further emotional injury for the victim’s family and the community at large.
“Although the Office of the New Jersey Attorney General is investigating the circumstances that led to the unfortunate fatality, it is both ethical and prudent to address the misleading information reported by certain media outlets.
“This incident has been falsely reported as a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that resulted in the death of the victim. No police pursuit was initiated.
“In announcing the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office respectfully withheld the victim’s name, age, and photo. However, overzealous news outlets published this information.
“We welcome the results of the investigation so that the victim’s family can seek justice based on unblemished truth. Further, we encourage the public to dismiss hasty and false information.
“Rather, we trust that astute Newark residents will rely upon the factual information resulting from the methodical and thorough investigation being led by the Attorney General’s Office.” #newarknj #statement #condolences
