Fatal Fire Incident and Active Investigation, Irvington

This morning, at 9:20 a.m., the Fremont Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting fire in the hallway of an apartment building at 4200 Irvington Ave. There were initial reports of one adult patient down as a result of the fire.

Fremont’s first fire engine arrived on scene approximately five minutes. They found smoke and fire coming from the hallway. The fire was quickly extinguished, and crews found a severely injured adult patient in the hallway.

A total of 21 firefighters responded to mitigate the majority of the fire in 25 minutes. The adult patient was transported in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries, to Washington Hospital, where they unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. Two Fremont Fire Department Paramedics rode along to provide advanced care.

The cause of the fire appears to be cooking-related. Fremont Fire Department's Fire Investigator is working closely with the Fremont Police Department to investigate and determine a cause.
