3 suspects indicted for Murder in shooting death of Jeremy Ray

On August 12th, 2026, the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit presented the murder investigation involving the shooting death of Jeremy Ray, 45, to the Randall County Grand Jury.
Following the presentation, the Grand Jury returned indictments for Felony Murder against Jontrell Graves 18, Jaylyn Johnson 18, and Meghan Kern 43.
All three defendants are currently being held in the Randall County Detention Center.
***update June 21, 2026- On May 25 at 12:45 AM officers were sent to 3906 S. Tyler regarding a shooting. Jeremy Ray was found with a gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries on Friday, May 29th. As previously released, Jaylyn Johnson and Meghan Kern were identified as suspects and arrested for murder. The Investigation continued and detectives of the homicide unit identified a third suspect in the incident identified as Jontrell Graves, age 18. Graves was arrested on unrelated charges and brought to the Amarillo Police Department. From information obtained by detectives, a firearm was located associated with the homicide. Based on information obtained in the investigation and the recovered firearm, the RCDA issued a murder warrant for Graves. Graves was booked in the Randall County detention center.

Amarillo Police Homicide investigators have obtained two warrants for Murder in connection with the shooting death of Jeremy Ray at a residence in the 3900 block of South Tyler Street on May 25, 2026.
Meghan Dawn Kern, 43, and Jaylyn Andrew Johnson, 18, have both been charged with Murder through the Randall County District Attorney’s Office.
Johnson was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail. Kern was already in custody at the Potter County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.

The Amarillo Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the 3900 block of S. Tyler St.
One adult male sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Preliminary information indicates this may be a domestic violence related incident. At this time, no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
