Meridian Police Arrest Man Following Investigation into Sexual Battery of Juvenile
MERIDIAN, Idaho— On August 9, 2026, Meridian Police officers were dispatched to a report of a sexual assault involving a juvenile.
The victim and suspect were unknown to each other but communicating via text and agreed to meet. Following an investigation, detectives identified 32-year-old Jose MORENO CORTES of Meridian as the suspect. It was determined that MORENO CORTES provided transportation for the juvenile to and from his location, where he engaged in sexual acts with her.
On August 11, 2026, MORENO CORTES was arrested after further investigation corroborated his involvement with the victim. He was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of Child Sexual Battery – Lewd or Lascivious Acts on a Minor Child 16 or 17 Years of Age. He was booked into the Ada County Jail without further incident.
The investigation remains an active investigation.
The Meridian Police Department takes allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation of children extremely seriously. Our officers and detectives are committed to thoroughly investigating these cases, protecting victims, and holding those responsible accountable.
