San Mateo, CA – August 13, 2026 – At approximately 3:47 a.m., San Mateo Police Department (SMPD) officers responded to the 7-Eleven at 11 Laurie Meadows Drive for a report of a theft in progress. When officers arrived, they contacted a store employee who reported that an adult male suspect, later identified as Erwin Baccoc, had fled the store on foot toward Blossom Circle.
 
With assistance from the SMPD Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) and a Drone as a First Responder (DFR), officers located Baccoc a short time later in a condominium stairwell on Blossom Circle. As officers attempted to detain him, Baccoc violently resisted. After a brief struggle, during which Baccoc continued to resist and refused to show his hands, officers safely placed him in handcuffs.
 
During the investigation, officers learned that Baccoc had attempted to steal alcohol from the store before fleeing. The store clerk confronted Baccoc, and a physical struggle ensued over Baccoc’s backpack, where the stolen alcohol was believed to be located. The clerk was able to retrieve the alcohol and then exited the store to report the incident. Baccoc subsequently took a fire extinguisher from inside the 7-Eleven and fled the store with the item.
 
Baccoc was transported to a local hospital, where he received medical attention for minor abrasions. He was later booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges related to the incident.
