El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from July 26th to August 1st

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 26th to August 1st.     
 
July 26th
Theft – 3100 block of Carlson Blvd:
At 7:15 PM, an officer reports the victim witnessed the suspect stealing property from his vehicle.

Shoplift – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s):
At 8:26 PM, an officer reports two suspects stole merchandise from the business. An officer located one of the suspects nearby, but the business declined to pursue the matter criminally.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Madison Ave:
At 8:48 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for an outstanding warrant. The driver was released on a citation at the scene.

Driving Under the Influence/Suspended License – San Pablo Ave/Waldo Ave:
At 11:40 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. During a records check the officer discovered the driver had a suspended driver's license and their vehicle is required to have an ignition interlock device. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober relative. The driver’s vehicle was impounded and with a 30-day hold.

July 27th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Diego Street/Belmont Ave:
At 6:36 AM, a Community Service Officer located a stolen vehicle. He recovered the vehicle and located several other sets of plates within.

Petty Theft – 6700 block of Glen Mawr:
At 11:31 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole property between 7:00 PM on 7/25 and 8:00 AM on 7/26.
                                   
July 28th
Theft – 6900 block of Wilson Way:
At 3:332 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole property from the victim’s porch.

Attempt Vehicle Theft – 6500 block of Donal Ave:
At 10:40 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the window and damaged the ignition of a vehicle between 8:00 PM on 7/27 and 9:00 AM on 7/28 in an unsuccessful attempt to steal the vehicle.  
 
July 29th
Brandishing a Weapon – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 8:30 PM, an officer reports the suspect attempted to return items without a receipt and was denied by employees. The suspect became upset and brandished a weapon at an employee.

Shoplift - 10650 San Pablo Ave (AutoZone):
At 8:40 PM, an officer reports two suspects stole property from the store.
  
Warrant Arrest – 240 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 9:17 PM, an officer recognized a subject and was aware he had an outstanding warrant in regards to a previous Robbery case in El Cerrito. The officer arrested the subject and transported him to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and interview. After booking and interviewing the subject, they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
 
July 30th
Warrant Arrest – 11545 San Pablo Ave:
At 10:19 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for an active warrant out of Alameda County. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest – 11755 San Pablo Ave:
At 10:25 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and discovered they had an active warrant from the Berkeley Police Department. The pedestrian was taken into custody and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the pedestrian was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

July 31st
Evading – Eastshore Blvd/Potrero Ave:
At 7:49 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield and fled from the officer. Due to the time of day, the suspect’s driving behavior, and out of concern for public safety, the officer decided not to pursue the vehicle.  

Grand Theft – 11780 San Pablo Ave. (West County Optometry):
At 3:27 PM, an officer reports a suspect entered the business and pretended to be browsing. The suspect then fled the store after stealing merchandise.

Grand Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 3:32 PM, an officer reports the victim’s locked electric bicycle was stolen from in front of the business. 

August 1st
Burglary/Vandalism/Probation Violation – 10944 San Pablo Avenue:
At 3:17 PM, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex for a suspect who was shattering windows. Officers arrived on scene and detained the suspect who was discovered to be on felony probation. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest – Barrett Ave / 22nd Street:
At 4:12 PM, officers assigned to a West Contra Costa County Crime Suppression Operation conducted an enforcement stop on a bicyclist and discovered they had a warrant for their arrest. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – San Pablo Ave/Knott Ave:
At 4:42 PM, an officer reports a road rage incident occurred between two motorists. Statements were obtained from both parties, and the case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
