#LASD Lakewood Deputies Respond to Takeover, Burglary in #Bellflower

Bellflower - On Saturday, August 15, 2026, at approximately 3:29 a.m., Lakewood Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 15100 block of Bellflower Boulevard in the city of Bellflower regarding a call for service. The informant reported seeing 20–30 individuals breaking into the business.

Upon arrival, deputies observed what appeared to be a street takeover at the intersection of Bellflower Boulevard and Somerset Boulevard. Approximately 100–150 vehicles were stopped in the roadway and within the intersection, blocking access to the business referenced in the call.

Deputies made their way through the crowd and arrived at the location, where they observed a damaged front-facing window and evidence that the business had been ransacked. A review of surveillance footage showed three unknown suspects using power tools to break the front window and cut the lock to the security gate, allowing approximately 30–40 additional unknown suspects to enter the business and ransack it. The suspects remained inside the business for roughly two minutes before exiting and blending into the street‑takeover crowd.

The victim could not provide an actual value for the damage and loss of an inventory; however, Deputies estimate it to be close to $30,000.

No one was arrested for the burglary. Lakewood Sheriff Station deputies issued multiple citations for the street takeover, and could not connect anyone with the burglary.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Lakewood Sheriff's Station, remains committed to protecting our community and addressing the dangers posed by illegal street racing and takeovers. Illegal street takeovers are not harmless entertainment. They often attract large crowds, reckless driving, illegal firearms, and other criminal activity that threaten the safety of our entire community.

Lakewood Sheriff's Station continues to aggressively combat illegal street takeovers through proactive enforcement, intelligence-led operations, and strong partnerships with the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, Narcotics Bureau, and the California Highway Patrol. Together, these agencies conduct coordinated enforcement operations targeting organizers, participants, spectators engaged in criminal activity, and vehicles used during illegal street racing and takeovers.

Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Special Assignment Team deputies have also successfully seized vehicles involved in street takeovers days after the incidents by obtaining court-authorized seizure orders. These follow-up investigations demonstrate our commitment to holding offenders accountable, even after they have left the scene. Organizers who advertise or promote these events online may also face criminal consequences. We remain steadfast in our efforts to identify and hold organizers and participants accountable through arrests, vehicle impounds, citations, and criminal prosecution.

In addition, Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Special Assignment Team deputies have received specialized training from the California Highway Patrol in recognizing illegal modifications on vehicles commonly present during vehicle takeovers and street racing operations. These vehicles are then cited and referred to the California Smog Check Referee Program, which provides specialized vehicle inspections regarding modified vehicle emissions inspections. Lakewood Sheriff’s Station has also shared its enforcement strategies with other Sheriff’s Department Patrol Stations by providing training and operational guidance to help expand successful street racing suppression effort throughout LA County.

Beyond enforcement efforts, Lakewood Station has utilized multiple social media platforms to educate the public and highlight our ongoing efforts to combat illegal street racing and vehicle takeovers. These social media posts serve as public service announcements and reinforce Lakewood Station's zero-tolerance approach to this dangerous and unlawful activity while deterring future violations through public awareness.

Our message is clear, Lakewood Sheriff's Station will continue to work diligently with our law enforcement partners to identify those responsible, and disrupt these illegal street takeovers, prevent violence, and ensure our communities remain safe.

We encourage our community to be our partners in public safety by reporting planned street takeovers before they occur or contacting local law enforcement immediately if you witness one in progress. Timely reporting can help prevent injuries, protect lives, and stop these dangerous acts before they escalate.
