9/13 – 9:05 p.m. – Police were dispatched to a domestic violence incident in progress, in the 500 block of South Jefferson Street. The Smithton Police Department was requested to assist at that time. The police arrived where the suspect and victim were both present. Upon an initial investigation a male subject was taken into custody, and later transferred to the St. Clair County Jail. Upon conducting further investigation, the case was forwarded to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office – Domestic Violence Unit.
The following day, the state’s attorney’s office charged the defendant, Jeremiah D. Ferrer, age 22 of Millstadt, with the following:
Count 1: Aggravated Dometic Battery (strangulation); A Class 2 Criminal Felony.
Count 2: Aggravated Battery (victim pregnant/strangulation); A Class 3 Criminal Felony.
Count 3: Unlawful Restraint; Unlawful Restraint; A Class 4 Criminal Felony.
Count 4: Unlawful Interference with the Reporting of Domestic Violence; A Class A Misdemeanor.
