Police crackdown on Route 1 hard shoulder usage
South Brunswick Police Continue Operation Safe Summer Traffic Enforcement
The South Brunswick Police Department continued its Operation Safe Summer traffic enforcement initiative Monday with a targeted detail on Route 1, focusing on some of the most common traffic complaints the department receives.
Officers focused on improper use of the hard shoulder, speeding, careless driving, and cell phone use during a four-hour enforcement detail.
During the operation, a targeted team of officers conducted 32 motor vehicle stops and issued 24 summonses in 4 hours, including:
- 8 summonses for improper use of the hard shoulder
- 7 summonses for careless driving
- 4 summonses for speeding
- Additional summonses for other motor vehicle violations
“These efforts are ongoing every week,” said Acting Chief James Ryan. “We are highlighting today’s efforts because they focused on one of the largest complaints we receive — the improper use of the hard shoulder. We will continue enhanced enforcement in the weeks and months ahead.”
The South Brunswick Police Department continues to use targeted and high-visibility enforcement details to address traffic violations, reduce crashes, and improve roadway safety throughout the township.
Operation Safe Summer will continue throughout the summer and beyond as South Brunswick Police work to make the township’s roads safer for everyone.
