OPD Patrol Officers Respond Quickly and Recover Firearms
Patrol officers from the Oakland Police Department’s (OPD) Area 6 responded quickly to multiple ShotSpotter activations in the 9500 block of Sunnyside Street.
On August 15, 2026, shortly before 1:45 a.m., officers arrived and heard gunshots in the area as they were on scene. The gunshots were heard from the rear of a residence in the 9500 block of Sunnyside Street. After a lengthy standoff, officers detained two individuals related to the incident.
A follow-up search warrant was executed at the residence where a shotgun, a handgun with an extended magazine, and brass knuckles were recovered. Officers also located multiple spent bullet casings at the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to any officers or community members.
Officers arrested one individual in connection with the incident.
This incident demonstrates the dedication of our officers, who were attentive, responded quickly, and resolved a potentially dangerous situation safely. We will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community.
