Flood Watch in Effect August 20–21, 2026
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Village of Mamaroneck and Southern Westchester County from 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, through 2:00 a.m. Friday, August 21.
Showers and possible thunderstorms may produce a period of heavy rainfall this afternoon and evening. Peak rainfall rates could approach 2 inches in one hour, with total rainfall amounts between 1.5 and 2.5 inches and locally higher amounts possible. Excessive runoff may cause flooding along rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying locations, and areas with poor drainage.

Flood conditions can change quickly. Water may be deeper and moving faster than it appears, and roads or ground may remain unstable even after the water recedes. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
Please follow these important safety precautions:
• Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
• Never drive around or through barricades.
• Rising and fast-moving floodwaters can sweep away vehicles or cause drivers to lose control.
• Stay out of floodwaters, whether in a vehicle or on foot.
• Floodwaters may contain live electrical wires, dangerous chemicals, sewage, harmful bacteria, animals, insects, sharp objects, and other debris.
• Move to higher ground immediately if flooding occurs in your area.
• Continue monitoring local news, weather alerts, and official Village communications.
