The City of Hoboken remains under a National Weather Service (NWS) Flood Watch through early tomorrow morning and a Flash Flood Warning until 7:45 PM tonight, with the potential for flooding caused by excessive rainfall.
The NWS is forecasting peak rainfall rates of up to 2.5 inches per hour. Residents are reminded that the city can experience flooding in low-lying, flood-prone areas if more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour falls.
Barricades in place; Do not move or go around barricades
The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Signal and Traffic Division, and Hoboken Police have staged barricades in low-lying, flood-prone areas, and will deploy them as needed.
Please DO NOT drive around or move barricades. They are there for your safety, and in some cases, can prevent wake waters that cause even greater damage.
Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and cause vehicles to stall, which can impact emergency response times.
Residents should not walk or drive through floodwaters.
Report clogged catch basins
Clogged catch basins can significantly impede drainage during heavy rainfall events and lead to more severe flooding.
Residents should report clogged catch basins to the NHSA hotline at (866) 689-3970 for the quickest response.
Postponed event
As a reminder, tonight’s concert in the park with DJ Kasanova, Kevin Rodriguez, and the Salsa All-Stars has been postponed. It is rescheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Sinatra Park, at 7 p.m.
