El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from August 2nd to August 8th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from August 2nd to August 8th.     
 
August 2nd 
Grand Theft – Pomona Ave/Ward Ave:
At 8:41 AM, an officer reports the victim’s catalytic converter was stolen sometime overnight.

Stolen Vehicle – 2500 block of Edwards Ave:
At 10:33 AM, an officer reports the victim’s vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.

Arrest Warrant/Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 3:22 PM, officers were dispatched to the store for a subject who had a knife threatening self harm. Upon arrival, officers detained the subject and discovered they had a warrant for their arrest. Further investigation revealed they made threats to employees after being confronted with stealing merchandise. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication – 11430 San Pablo Ave (Subway):
At 3:53 PM, an officer reports a subject was highly intoxicated and unable to care for themselves. Due to their inebriated condition, an ambulance transported them to a local hospital and a criminal report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Petty Theft - 100 block Carmel Ave:
At 6:57 PM, an officer reports that the victim’s rear license plate was stolen.

Fraud – 11555 San Pablo Ave (DD’s Discount):
At 7:45 PM, an officer reports that the suspect attempted to use the victim’s lost debit card to purchase merchandise at DD’s Discount. An officer arrived on scene and detained the suspect. The suspect was positively identified by the victim and store employees. The suspect complained of medical issues and was transported to Kaiser Hospital. The suspect was medically cleared and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The suspect was later cited and released.

Fraud – 500 block of Albermarle Street:
At 8:00 PM, an officer reports the victim’s credit card was used in Marin to make unauthorized purchases.

August 3rd
Petty Theft – 10200 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 12:02 AM, an officer reports that the victim’s clothing was stolen from a community laundry room.
 
Battery on a Peace Officer – Central Ave/Pierce Street:
At 12:12 AM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop. The suspect was detained and refused to listen to commands and attempted to walk away from the officer. As the officer attempted to stop the suspect, the suspect began shoving the officer, knocking the officer to the ground. The suspect fled and was located hiding in an open patio area of an apartment complex one block away. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Trespassing/Resisting Arrest/Possession of Controlled Substance – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24-Hour Fitness):
At 4:36 AM, an officer reports that the suspect was lingering inside of the business and refused to leave. When asked to leave by officers, the subject refused and resisted arrest. After taking the suspect into custody the suspect was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and later issued a citation and released.

August 4th
Grand Theft – 5800 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 8:00 AM, an officer reports theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle at 7:40 AM. 

Misappropriate Found Property – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 9:13 AM, a Community Service Officer reports the victim dropped their wallet after checking out at Safeway and wanted to make a lost property report. The CSO followed up with Safeway to view the store video, and determined the next customer in line picked up the wallet off the floor and left the store with it. 

Grand Theft x 2 – 5300 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 12:48 PM, an officer took a telephone report of theft of catalytic converters from two vehicles sometime overnight.  The victims heard a noise around 3:00 – 4:00 AM but did not investigate.

Vandalism – 1200 block of Liberty Street:
At 1:53 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect made a scratch on the hood of a vehicle sometime after 1:00 PM on 8/1.

Driving Under the Influence/Battery on Peace Officer/Assault on Medical Staff/Obstruction – San Pablo Ave/Cutting Blvd:
At 9:54 PM, officers responded to a vehicle collision. One of the drivers was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.  The suspect assaulted and battered an El Cerrito Police Officer and emergency medical staff.  The subject was later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – 11740 San Pablo Ave.
At 4:31 AM, the victim reported their property was stolen by an unknown suspect. 
 
August 5th
Identity Theft – 900 block of Elm Street:
At 9:44 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect used the victim’s debit card info to make several transactions in Richmond, Palo Alto and Washington DC.  The victim still had the card in his possession.

Driving Under the Influence/Drive While Suspended for DUI/No Ignition Interlock Device – San Pablo Ave/Carlos Ave:
At 10:50 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The suspect appeared to be under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant, the suspect’s license was suspended for DUI, and the was required to have an ignition interlock device but the vehicle was not so equipped. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation to a sober friend.

Warrant Arrest – 600 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 7:37 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the subject on a felony arrest warrant. The subject was transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Battery/Commercial Burglary – 9989 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:15 PM, officers responded to the business for a Battery. An employee was punched by the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect then attempted to hit the employee with their vehicle. The suspect then entered the business and stole items. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
 
August 6th
Theft by False Pretense – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:50 AM, an officer reports the victim was scammed out of money via a gift card scam on 8/4.

August 7th
Drug Paraphernalia – San Pablo Ave/Potrero Ave:
At 4:06 PM, an officer observed a subject at the bus stop preparing to smoke narcotics. The subject was arrested and released with a citation in the field. 
 
Driving Under the Influence - Central Ave/Yolo Ave:
At 11:44 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
 
August 8th
Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24-Hour Fitness):
At 9:15 AM, an officer reports a suspect stole the victim’s electric scooter from in front of the gym. The scooter was locked to a bike rack. The theft occurred on 08/07.
 
Public Intoxication – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 4:28 PM, an officer reports a subject was highly intoxicated and unable to care for themselves. Due to their inebriated condition, an ambulance transported them to a local hospital. A criminal report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
 
Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 7:07 PM, officers responded to Safeway in regards to a theft. Upon arrival officers discovered the suspects assaulted an employee when they were confronted for concealing items in their bags. Officers located the suspects nearby and detained them. The suspects were transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The two juvenile suspects were issued a citation and released to their parents. The adult suspect was transported to Juvenile Hall for an outstanding warrant that was issued for their arrest when they were a juvenile.

Criminal Threats - Carlson Blvd/Central Ave:
At 7:17 PM, an officer reports during a road rage incident the suspect made threats to the victim.
