El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from August 9th to August 15th
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from August 9th to August 15th.
August 9th
Driving Under the Influence – 300 block of Coronado Street.
At 8:07 AM, officers were dispatched to the area for a vehicle parked in the middle of the street. Officers arrived and located the driver asleep with the engine running. An officer conducted a DUI investigation and the driver was arrested. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Burglary – 5600 block of Poinsett Ave:
At 6:58 PM, an officer reports the suspect shattered a window to gain entry into the victim’s residence and ransacked the interior.
Battery – 5200 block of Potrero Ave:
At 8:55 PM, an officer reports the victim was punched by the victim’s friend for unknown reasons.
Shoplift – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):
At 10:42 PM, an officer reports a suspect exited the store with unpaid merchandise and detained by the security guard. The guard retrieved the merchandise and did not want to pursue criminal charges.
August 10th
Vehicle Theft - 300 block of Carmel Ave:
At 8:08 AM, an officer reports a vehicle was stolen during the previous ten minutes.
Vandalism – 2300 block of Gloria Street:
At 8:09 AM, an officer reports the windshield of the victim’s vehicle was smashed between 7:00 PM on 8/9 and 7:00 AM on 8/10.
Vehicle Theft – 5800 block of Charles Ave:
At 2:04 PM, an officer reports theft of a motorcycle sometime overnight.
Theft -11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 11:30 PM, an officer reports the victims property was stolen.
August 11th
Grand Theft – 6400 block of Hagen Blvd:
At 5:17 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the back yard through an unlocked gate and stole a bicycle. The theft was captured on video between 3:13 – 3:30 PM on 8/7.
August 12th
Possess Drug Paraphernalia – 800 block of Everett Street:
At 8:25 AM, an officer arrested a suspect for possession of a meth pipe during a pedestrian stop. The suspect was cited and released in the field.
Shoplift/Probation Violation – 670 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 8:11 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a subject after they stole merchandise. The subject was found to be on felony probation from a neighboring county. The subject was later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
August 13th
Burglary – 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave:
At 4:24 AM, an officer reports a subject shattered a window to the business and stole merchandise.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Potrero:
At 11:38 AM, during a traffic stop, an officer arrested a suspect on a warrant during a traffic stop. The suspect was cited and released in the field.
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 2:16 PM, an unidentified suspect stole merchandise and fled, ignoring los prevention’s efforts to stop them.
Burglary – 5600 block of Poinsett Ave:
At 8:13 PM, an officer reports the suspect shattered a window to gain entry into the victim’s residence and ransacked the interior.
August 14th
Grand Theft - 11760 San Pablo Ave:
At 6:31 AM, an officer reports that the victim’s electric bicycle was stolen from their patio.
Burglary – 1200 block of Lawrence Street:
At 10:21 AM, an officer responded to a vehicle burglary report. During the investigation, the officer was able to review surveillance video footage of the incident and suspect. After taking the report, the officer located the suspect later in the shift in another part of El Cerrito. The suspect was arrested, booked at the ECPD, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls):
At 10:35 AM, officers responded to the business for a shoplift that just occurred. An officer located the suspect at the Plaza BART station. The suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest and all of the stolen merchandise was recovered. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. While inside of booking, the suspect advised they had ingested narcotics prior to police contact. An ambulance transported the suspect to a local hospital and they were released with a citation.
Shoplifting/Warrant – 6000 El Cerrito Plz (Marshalls):
While clearing the above call, an officer observed another shoplift occurring. The suspect was detained and ultimately placed under citizen’s arrest. The suspect was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. The suspect also had a non-citable warrant for their arrest. While awaiting transport in a jail cell, the suspect requested medical attention for an injury. The subject was issued a citation and an ambulance transported the them to a local hospital.
Theft by Deception – 5040 El Cerrito Plaza (California Fish Grill):
At 6:10 PM, an officer reports the suspect called the victim and tricked them into wiring money to the suspect.
August 15th
Public Intoxication – Schmidt Lane/Ohlone Greenway:
At 6:52 AM, an officer reports a subject was highly intoxicated and unable to care for themselves. Due to their inebriated state, an ambulance was requested and transported them to the hospital. A case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
Public Intoxication – 11400 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 8:40 PM, an officer noticed a subject stumbling in the parking lot of a business and contacted them. During the investigation the officer determined the subject was under the influence of alcohol and was unable to care for themself. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving Under the Influence – Central Ave/Pierce Street:
At 8:45 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. During a search incident to arrest the driver was found to be in possession of drug paraphrenia and had a suspended license. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
