Storm Lucy Restoration Update - City of East Chicago | August 22, 2026 – 5PM
City of East Chicago, Since the onset of the storm, a total of 16,454 East Chicago residents were impacted by power outages sustained by Storm Lucy. To date, power has been restored to approximately 16,000 customers, representing substantial progress. We recognize the disruption that outages create for residents, businesses, and critical community services. Please be assured that restoring service to the remaining 208 customers remains our highest priority. Our teams will continue working safely and as quickly as conditions allow until every customer who can be restored has power returned.
Current restoration activities remain focused on:
• Repairing damaged power lines, poles, and equipment.
• Addressing isolated outages resulting from fallen trees and storm debris.
• Conducting safety inspections to ensure the reliability of restored service.
• Prioritizing critical infrastructure and community facilities where necessary.
Weather Head Damage and Repair Information - Process needed to safely restore power
As power restoration efforts continue across our service area, some residents in your community may be unable to have service restored immediately because repairs are needed to the electrical equipment serving their home or business.
In these situations, a licensed electrical contractor must complete the necessary repairs. Once the work is finished, the local jurisdiction must conduct and approve an inspection to ensure the equipment is safe before we can re-energize service at the meter.
We appreciate the City of East Chicago’s partnership and support throughout this response effort. I will continue to provide updates as restoration work progresses.
