Structure Fire Displaces Resident
On Friday, August 21, 2026, at approximately 7:27 p.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety (RPDPS) received a report of a possible structure fire at a residence on Maria Place.
A nearby neighbor reported seeing black smoke coming from the exterior dryer vent of the residence and hearing the fire alarm sounding. RPDPS fire engines responded to the scene, along with fire engines from Sonoma County Fire District.
The first engine arrived at approximately 7:32 p.m. and crews investigated, locating a fire in the home's laundry room. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the laundry room and prevented further spread to the remainder of the residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to have originated from an electrical issue involving a fan in the laundry room.
Due to damage to the home's electrical system and smoke damage throughout the residence, the home was red-tagged and will require further inspection before it can be occupied. Damage was limited primarily to the laundryroom and is estimated at approximately $20,000.
The American Red Cross aid was offered to the resident, but the offer was declined.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to thank the Sonoma County Fire District for their assistance.
