School Zone Safety Enforcement: August 26, 2026
? SLOW DOWN. STAY ALERT. KEEP KIDS SAFE. ?
As students head back to school, the Pocatello Police Department is joining forces with neighboring jurisdictions for a multi-agency School Zone Safety Emphasis Patrol on Wednesday, August 26.
Officers will be out in school zones watching for unsafe driving behaviors and helping remind everyone that getting to school safely is a team effort.
Parents, students, and drivers—here are a few simple reminders:
? Put the phone down. Using your cell phone while driving takes your attention away from the road and the people around you. Idaho law prohibits texting while driving, and distracted driving can have serious consequences.
? Slow down in school zones. Pay attention to posted speed limits and be prepared for increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
? Watch for pedestrians and crossing guards. Give yourself plenty of time to stop and always follow the directions of crossing guards.
? Be alert around school buses. Watch for buses stopping to pick up or drop off students and follow Idaho's school bus laws.
? Expect the unexpected. Children may cross the street unexpectedly or move quickly into a roadway. Stay focused and give them the time and space they need to get where they're going safely.
The goal isn't simply enforcement—the goal is safe roads, safe school zones, and making sure every student makes it to and from school safely.
Slow down. Put the phone away. Look out for one another. Let's make this school year a safe one! ?
