Rialto Police Arrest Suspect in Park Shooting

The Rialto Police Department has arrested a 43-year-old Rialto man in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday night at a city park.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, at approximately 10:54 p.m., Rialto Police Department officers responded to a park located in the area of 150 E. San Bernardino Avenue following reports of a shooting with a victim down.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, where his condition was stabilized.

During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered the suspect approached the victim and confronted him regarding possible gang affiliation. Following the initial confrontation, the suspect left the area and returned a short time later, armed with a firearm and the shooting occurred.

Detectives from the Rialto Police Department’s Investigation Bureau assumed the investigation. During a search for surveillance footage, detectives located video that assisted in the identification of the suspect.  Through additional investigative efforts, detectives identified the suspect as John Van Vo, 43, of Rialto.

On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, officers assigned to the Rialto Police Department’s Street Crime Attack Team (SCAT) conducted surveillance in the area of Vo’s residence. Vo was observed leaving the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives subsequently served a search warrant at Vo’s residence. During the search, investigators recovered evidence related to the shooting.

Vo was arrested in connection with the shooting and booked on charges of PC 664/187(a) – Attempt Homicide, PC 245 (b) Assault on Person with Semiautomatic Firearm, and PC 29800 (a)(1) – Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm.  Those charges have since been filed by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office and Vo is currently being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
