Boil Water Notice Rescinded
On August 24, 2026, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Sonora public water system, PWS I.D. No. TX 2180001, located at 201 East Main Street Sonora, Texas to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or/and employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, all the water customers of this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of August 26, 2025.
The boil water notice was issued due to an issue with the well facilities causing systemwide low pressures. Elevated storage reserves allowed the water system to continue to provide water, at low pressures, to the community. The well facilities have been checked and have been placed back into service. Water distribution system pressures have returned to normal operating conditions.
Affected customers will be notified directly by PWS city hall staff, through social media, via electronic emergency notification service and posted in public places in town, that the boil water notice has been rescinded.
