The Rialto Police Department is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a Metrolink train Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 1:08 p.m., the Rialto Police Department Communications Center received reports of a pedestrian being struck by a Metrolink train in the 200 block of South Linden Avenue.
Officers arrived at approximately 1:12 p.m. and located a 19-year-old male near the railroad tracks. The Metrolink train had come to a stop several hundred yards west of the point of impact. The male sustained significant injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Rialto Fire Department personnel. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The preliminary investigation indicates the male entered the railroad right-of-way and ran north across the tracks as a westbound Metrolink train was approaching. Despite the approaching train, he continued into the train's path and was subsequently struck.
Based on evidence and information developed during the preliminary investigation, investigators are examining whether the male's actions immediately preceding the collision were intentional rather than accidental. Alcohol impairment is also being investigated as a possible contributing factor.
The circumstances surrounding the male's actions and death remain under investigation, and no final determination regarding intent has been made.
