Borough Council Meeting, Tuesday, September 1 & September 15
The Mayor and Council hold their regularly scheduled meetings pursuant to the provisions of the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-8(b). Meetings are held in person at Borough Hall, 221 South 5th Avenue, Highland Park, NJ at 7:00 pm. As a convenience, the Borough provides the public the option to attend meetings remotely through Zoom. The meeting agenda and support materials are posted in Borough Hall and on the Borough website at least 48 hours before the scheduled meeting.
 
Back to School Giveaway & Backpack Decorating, Tuesday, September 1
Get ready for the upcoming school year with the Highland Park Police Department's Back to School Giveaway & Backpack Decorating event! Join the community at the HP Community Center on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for an afternoon of fun, creativity, and preparation. The first 48 children will receive a FREE backpack and school supply giveaway. Kids can stick around to decorate their brand-new giveaway bag or bring a favorite backpack from home to customize. Learn and Create Series “Floating Ink: Paper Marbling”, Wednesday, September 2
Looking for a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to create unique art? Join the Highland Park Arts Commission at 6:30 pm at the Highland Park Community Center for a Floating Ink: Paper Marbling program for ages 18+. Registration is required to attend!
 
Outdoor Movie Theater, Saturday, September 5 & September 19
Main Street Highland Park hosts an outdoor movie series Saturday nights at 9:00 pm at the Municipal Lot on Raritan Avenue between 2^nd & 3^rd Avenue).  Upcoming screenings include “Half Japanese: The Band That Would Be King Q&A W/Director Jeff Feuerzeig” on September 5 and  “Young Frankenstein” on September 19.
 
Arts in the Park Street Fair, Sunday, September 20
Celebrate a day of art in downtown Highland Park from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm on Raritan Avenue filled with artists, a juried art show, a youth art show, a kids art zone, vendors, local businesses, community groups, food trucks, four stages of live music and dance and theater performances, and more.

Learn and Create Series “Collage with Rolonda”, Wednesday, September 23
Looking for a creative night out? Join the Highland Park Arts Commission at 6:30 pm at the Highland Park Community Center to make a Collage with Rolonda.  This program is for ages 18+. Registration is required to attend!
 
Learn and Create Series “The Art of Turning Trash into Treasure: A Compost Workshop”, Saturday, September 26
Think composting isn’t possible in a densely populated area like Highland Park? Think again! Join the Highland Park Arts Commission from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Highland Park Public Library, 31 North 5^th Avenue for a hands-on workshop where we will show you how to recycle waste organically.  This program is for adults and youth ages 8+. Registration is required to attend!
 
Hispanic Heritage Art Display & Exhibit, Monday, September 28
The Highland Park Community Center is proud to invite the public to a special Hispanic Heritage Art Display & Exhibit from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Located at 220 South Sixth Avenue in Highland Park, NJ, this vibrant evening is completely open to the public and dedicated to exploring the rich history, culture, and enduring contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Attendees will experience an immersive journey through art, music, education, and community conversation. The event showcases works from featured artists alongside live musical entertainment, eye-opening cultural displays that highlight various Hispanic countries and traditions, and interactive educational exhibits designed for all ages to enjoy. Ongoing Programs:
Free Groceries from H.P. Gives a Hoot, Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 and Wednesdays September 2, 9, 16,23 & 30
Highland Park Gives a Hoot offers free groceries to Highland Park families in need of support. Distributions are every Tuesday & Wednesday (except holidays) from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Zone 6/Teen Center, 600 Benner Street.
 
Highland Park Community Food Pantry Distribution, Thursdays, September 10, 24 and Saturdays September 12, 26
The Highland Park Community Food Pantry distribution takes place at the Highland Park Community Center on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 9:00 am to 10:45 am and 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on the second and fourth Saturdays from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Highland Park Recreation Programs
Hello, neighbors! Registration is open for Highland Park Recreation’s adult, youth, and fall programs.  To ensure our programs are accessible to everyone, the Borough offers a 60% discount on all activities for families who qualify for free and reduced lunch. 

Farmers Market
The Highland Park Farmers Market coordinated by Main Street Highland Park brings fresh, local, homemade products from farmers and vendors across New Jersey.  The market is open every Friday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm in, March, November and December and until 5:00 pm from April through October.  Shop for farm fresh produce, baked goods, artisanal products, and more while supporting local businesses and enjoying a vibrant community atmosphere.
