| Narrative: | |||||
| On August 21st, 2026, the Thousand Oaks Police Department conducted a E-Bike safety and enforcement operation in the Newbury Park area. The operation focused on promoting rider safety and addressing violations involving illegal electric bicycles (E-Bikes) and electric motorcycles (E-Motorcycles). During the enforcement operation, five illegal E-Bikes/E-Motorcycles were impounded, and nine citations were issued. Violations included failing to wear a helmet or wearing a helmet improperly, modifying an E-Bike, operating without a valid license, operating an unregistered vehicle, failing to provide proof of insurance, traveling at an unsafe speed, and failing to yield to vehicles or pedestrians. The primary goal of E-Bike and E-Motorcycle enforcement is to promote safe riding practices and protect the public by educating riders about the rules of the road established under the California Vehicle Code. These enforcement efforts are intended to reduce the risk of unnecessary injuries resulting from traffic collisions or unsafe riding practices. Funding for this enforcement operation was provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic and Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). |
