Armed Robbery Investigated at Cloquet Convenience Store
CLOQUET, Minn. – The Cloquet Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred last night at a local convenience store and is asking for the public’s help as the investigation continues.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., Carlton County Dispatch received a 911 call from a clerk at the Broadway Korner Store, located at 401 Broadway Street, reporting that the store had been robbed at gunpoint.
Officers responded immediately and, within about three minutes, began establishing a perimeter in the area where the suspect was last seen fleeing on foot.
Approximately ten minutes after the initial call, drone teams from the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and the Fond du Lac Police Department were paged to assist in locating the suspect. Assistance was also requested from the Minnesota State Patrol’s Airwing, though they were unable to respond.
The Cloquet Police Department’s K9 unit, which was on duty at the time of the incident, assisted with the search and tracking effort. Minnesota State Patrol troopers and deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist in the search for the suspect.
Over the following hours, officers processed the scene, conducted interviews, and made contact with several individuals identified by the drone teams. Those individuals have since been cleared of any involvement in the incident.
Officers also located several items believed to be connected to the robbery, including clothing and a bicycle.
At 11:50 p.m., detectives executed a search warrant at a residence a short distance from the scene, where additional evidence was collected.
No arrests have been made at this time. Investigators continue to develop information regarding a person of interest.
The firearm allegedly used in the robbery has not been located.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
The Cloquet Police Department would like to thank the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, the Fond du Lac Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, and the drone teams involved for their assistance during this incident.
The Cloquet Police Department also asks residents in the area to check any home security or doorbell cameras for footage from last night, and to check garbage cans, dumpsters, and other areas on their property where items could have been hidden or discarded.
