On August 29, 2026, at approximately 11:20 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of two individuals trespassing on a train at factory near County Road 350 South and US 41. Deputy U.B. Smith was dispatched to the area, and upon arriving he located 44-year-old Steven Wetzel of Almaa, Michigan and 45-year-old Amanda Deroo of San Antonio, Texas. After a brief investigation both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Detention Center. Mr. Wetzel was charged with Possession of Methamphetamines, Possession of Hypodermic Syringe, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Criminal Trespass. Ms. Deroo was arrested for Criminal Trespass.
