The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from August 16^th to August 22^nd, 2026.     
 
August 16th
Stolen Vehicle – 300 block of Pomona Ave:
At 3:26 PM, an officer reports the victim’s vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.

Driving Under the Influence - 3000 block of Yolo Ave:
At 7:41 PM, officers responded to a collision involving a parked vehicle. During the investigation officers determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and placed them under arrest. During a records check officers discovered the driver had an active warrant for DUI. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication – 6600 block of Schmidt Lane:
At 11:21 PM, officers responded to the area for a subject banging on the side of the reporting party’s house. Officers located the subject two blocks away and determined they were under the influence of alcohol and placed them under arrest for Public Intoxication. The subject was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 17th
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cutting Blvd/Kearney St:
At 11:39 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for being in Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released.

August 18th
Shoplift - 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall's)
At 10:04 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole merchandise. The item was found discarded behind the store, and was returned.

Burglary – 6400 block of Central Ave:
At 10:37 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered the window of the victim vehicle and stole property sometime over the past few days.

Grand Theft – Arlington Blvd/Brewster Drive:
At 11:32 AM, an officer reports theft of AT&T copper wires. AT&T received the trouble alert at 7:40 AM, but a neighbor saw lights in the area around 3:00 AM however did not call police.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreen’s):
At 12:59 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect swung a large metal pipe at the victim, missing and striking his vehicle to the tune of $10,000 worth of damage, during a road rage incident. 

Public Intoxication – Moeser Lane/Norvell Street:
At 1:38 PM, an officer reports a suspect was passed out in the tanbark in front of a residence, and too intoxicated to care for themself. The subject was transported to the hospital by an ambulance and a case will be sent to the District Attorney's office for review.  

Battery – 7600 block of Potrero Ave:
At 1:36 PM, an officer reports mutual combat between two tenants during an argument over prep for a code enforcement inspection.

Brandishing – Eastshore Blvd/Potrero Ave:
At 3:12 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect brandished a metal pipe at the victim when they pulled over to exchange information for a collision on the I-80 / Potrero off-ramp. The suspect then fled without exchanging information. 
 
Burglary – 400 block of Kearney Street:
At 8:19 PM, the victim reported an unknown suspect shattered their car window and stole items sometime overnight.
 
August 19th
Burglary – Knott Ave/San Pablo Ave:
At 8:57 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect shattered a window of the victim vehicle and stole property between 7:00 PM on 8/18 and 8:00 AM on 8/19.

Petty Theft – 1900 block of Junction Ave:
At 8:25 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and stole property between 12:50 AM and 9:15 AM.

Shoplift/Theft with Priors – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 12:30 PM, an officer reports a suspect stole merchandise and fled out the emergency exit door toward San Pablo Ave. A community Service Officer spotted the suspect at the bus stop near Daiso as they boarded the northbound AC Transit bus, and kept eyes on the bus until officers caught up as it stopped in the Plaza BART station. The suspect was detained and escorted off the bus. The suspect was positively identified during an in-field line up, then taken into custody on the citizen’s arrest. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, where the stolen clothing she was wearing was recovered. After booking, the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – 11555 San Pablo Ave (DD’s Discounts):
At 5:03 PM, an officer reports DD’s staff reviewed video of a theft of merchandise from Sunday.  The report was not made on Sunday because they did not know the value exceeded their “must report” threshold.  Occurred 8/16 at 2:37 PM.

Warrant Arrest – 6400 Cutting Blvd.
At 11:38 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a subject on a misdemeanor warrant. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
August 20th
Vehicle Theft – 11740 San Pablo Ave:
At 7:16 AM, an officer reports theft of a vehicle from the parking lot.  The vehicle was impounded by Sunnyvale DPS this morning around 3:00 PM for blocking a roadway, with the windows down and the plates removed.

Grand Theft – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 9:16 AM, an officer took a late report of a theft that occurred Monday 8/17. Marshall’s did not report the theft until they realized the take was over their threshold to report to police.

Restraining Order Violation – 5900 block of Jordan Ave:
At 10:33 AM, an officer reports a suspect made several phone calls to the victim while in custody, and in violation of served Emergency Protective Order and Domestic Violence Restraining Order. 

Grand Theft – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 11:05 AM, an officer took a second late report of a theft that occurred 8/12. Marshall’s did not report the theft until they realized the take was over their threshold.

Lost or Stolen Plates – 6700 block of Glen Mawr Ave:
At 11:00 AM, an officer reports the victim’s front plate was lost or stolen between 7/20 and 8/10.

Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 11:07 AM, officers responded to Marshall’s for an unwanted subject.  While enroute, store staff advised the subject left and stole merchandise. A Community Service Officer spotted the suspect at Plaza BART where they were detained by responding officers. The suspect was taken into custody on a citizen’s arrest after a positive in-field identification. The suspect was booked at El Cerrito Police Department, and their criminal history revealed two prior theft convictions qualifying them for a theft with priors charge. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest – 6400 block of Lagunitias Ave.
At 12:33 AM, officers were dispatched to the area for a suspicious subject trying to open car doors. Officers located a subject in the area and detained them. The subject had a parole violation warrant and was on parole for Burglary. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 21st
Warrant arrest - Moeser Lane/Ohlone Greenway:
At 7:59 PM, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the subject for an outstanding probation violation warrant. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

August 22nd
Driving Under the Influence – Fairmount Ave/Lexington Ave:
At 12:58 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober friend.

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Wall Ave:
At 10:13 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, They were issued a citation and released to a sober relative.
