On August 31, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Simi Valley Police Officers responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, located at 1369 Erringer Road.
Upon arrival, officers determined that a vehicle had struck an adult pedestrian and fled the scene. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the investigation, officers searched the surrounding area and located the involved vehicle abandoned. Officers continued their investigation and search for the driver and subsequently located Abel Alvaro, 40, a Simi Valley resident. Alvaro was taken into custody without incident.
Alvaro was later booked into the Ventura County Jail for a violation of California Vehicle Code § 20001(a), felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
