Advisory

Flooding possible in low-lying areas this afternoon; Do not move or go around barricades

Strong to severe thunderstorms are forecasted by the National Weather Service this afternoon into early this evening, with large hail and damaging wind gusts possible.

Residents are reminded that parts of Hoboken can flood if more than 0.8 inches of rain per hour falls, especially around high tide. The next high tide for the area is approximately 11:55 a.m.

The Office of Emergency Management has staged barricades in flood-prone areas and will deploy them as needed. Do not move or go around barricades. They are there for your safety. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear and can cause vehicles to stall, which can impact emergency response times. Driving through the water can also produce wakes that can cause buildings to flood.

Report clogged catch basins and power outages

Clogged catch basins can significantly impede drainage capacity during heavy rainfall events and lead to more severe flooding. Residents should report clogged catch basins to the NHSA hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Strong winds are also possible, and residents are advised to secure loose objects outside or bring them inside. Contractors have been notified by OEM to secure their sites as a precaution. Winds can result in power outages. Report any power outages to PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734 or https://nj.pseg.com/outageandgasleaks
