1 ARRESTED AND 14 CITED AT NEWARK DUI/DL CHECKPOINT 
Newark, CA. – On Friday, August 28, 2026, the Newark Police Department conducted a DUI/Driver License checkpoint that resulted in one arrest for driving on a DUI-related suspended license and 14 citations for driving without a license.
The checkpoint was held near the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the roadway.
The Newark Police Department’s next DUI checkpoint is scheduled to take place during the Winter DUI Mobilization later this year.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
