El Cerrito Police Detectives continued to investigate the August 23rd homicide case throughout the week. After additional forensic examination, detectives identified Jakari Gibson as one of the two shooters. Detectives worked with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office to amend his charges to include murder.
Detectives also learned more about the motive for the crime. The suspects set up the victims for a marijuana robbery.
On Monday, August 31, 2026, El Cerrito Police Officers coordinated with regional law enforcement partners to locate Jamir Buckley (18, Richmond), the getaway driver wanted in connection with the homicide. In addition to the charges associated with the robbery and homicide, he was found in possession of an illegal assault rifle and high-capacity magazine.
