The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Wayne County in southeastern Michigan...
  Washtenaw County in southeastern Michigan...

* Until midnight EDT.

* At 1046 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Detroit Zoo to near Novi to near Hamburg, moving southeast at 40 mph.

  HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

  Livonia, Northville, and Whitmore Lake around 1050 PM EDT.
  Salem around 1055 PM EDT.
  Grosse Pointe and Detroit around 1100 PM EDT.
  Downtown Detroit, Canton, Dearborn, and Belle Isle around 1110 PM
  EDT.
  Greenfield Village around 1120 PM EDT.
  Taylor and Romulus around 1130 PM EDT.
  Wyandotte around 1135 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by these severe thunderstorms include Whittaker, Melvindale, Gibraltar, Hudson Mills Metropark, New Boston, Delhi Mills, Pleasant Lake, Rockwood, Harper Woods, and Westland.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move immediately to shelter inside a strong building. Stay away from windows.
