SLPD ARRESTS SUSPECT IN VEHICLE VANDALISM SERIES
San Leandro, CA – On August 31, 2026, San Leandro Police officers arrested 37-year-old San Leandro resident Darrian Hardaway in connection with four vehicle vandalisms reported in the same general area of San Leandro.
The investigation began on August 18, when surveillance footage captured a suspect breaking a parked vehicle’s window with a rock in the 200 block of Garcia Avenue.
On August 28, officers investigated two similar vandalisms in the 200 block of Cambridge Avenue and the 200 block of Belleview Drive. Information provided by a community member, combined with surveillance footage showing consistent clothing, appearance, and method of vandalism across the incidents, helped officers identify Hardaway as the suspect.
On August 31, a fourth vandalism was reported in the 100 block of Farrelly Drive. The victim heard glass breaking and called the San Leandro Police Department Communications Center. An officer located Hardaway minutes later and attempted to detain him. Hardaway initially fled on foot but was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered clothing consistent with that seen in surveillance footage from the related incidents.
“We are grateful to the members of our community whose awareness and willingness to bring these crimes to our attention helped officers identify and arrest the suspect,” said Lieutenant Jeff Walton.
Hardaway was booked into the San Leandro Jail in connection with the four vandalism cases. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Hardaway with felony vandalism and felony evading a peace officer. The District Attorney’s Office also filed an enhancement alleging Hardaway committed the offense while released from custody on a separate felony matter, along with additional sentencing allegations.
