El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from August 23 to August 29
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from August 23rd to August 29th, 2026.
August 23rd
Homicide - 6120 Potrero Avenue:
At 12:17 PM officer were dispctched to the report of a shooting that took place in the parking lot. When Officers arrived they found a victim had been shot to death. (See other Nixle reports for further details)
August 24th
Battery - 11755 San Pablo Avenue (Honda of El Cerrito):
At 10:35 AM, an identified suspect punched an employee at the business. The employee did not want to press charges against the suspect.
August 25th
Shoplift/Organized Retail Theft – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 12:40 PM, two suspects worked together to load two hampers full of merchandise and exited the store with them. Store staff recovered the merchandise outside, and the suspects fled in a vehicle.
Shoplift/Battery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 12:49 PM, a repeat offender suspect stole alcohol. Security recovered the merchandise outside, and the suspect then pushed one of the security guards before fleeing.
Petty Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 2:01 PM, an unidentified suspect stole the victim’s purse while she was in a fitting room.
Petty Theft – 11100 San Pablo Ave (Kumon):
At 3:11 PM, an officer reports the victim locked their e-bike to a bike rack behind the building while they were at school from 8:20 AM – 3:00 PM. When they came back, they found their lock was cut and the bike was gone.
Public Intoxication – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 3:01 PM, an officer was flagged down near Lucky and found a suspect sitting on the sidewalk with a laceration to their hand from a broken wine bottle. They were also heavily intoxicated. The subject was taken to Kaiser by ambulance and a case will be written to forward to the district attorney.
Petty Theft/Warrant/False Info to Peace Officer – 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks).
At 6:21 PM, the suspect entered the business and stole the tip jar and fled. Officers detained the suspect who provided a false name. The subject was placed under arrest for theft and providing a false name. The subject also had a warrant for their arrest. The subject was transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Stolen Vehicle – 600 block of Lexington Ave.
At 7:19 PM, the vehicle reported their vehicle had been stolen.
August 26th
Battery – 7125 Donal Ave (Korematsu Middle School):
At 10:08 AM, an officer took a report from a Kaiser advice nurse (mandated reporter) of an alleged battery that took place on campus between two students in 2025.
Burglary – 7500 block of Rockway Ave:
At 5:19 PM, an officer contacted the victim. On 8/23 at 11:03 PM, an unidentified suspect damaged the driver door lock on the victim vehicle causing all the windows to roll down, then stole property. A suspect vehicle was captured on a neighbor’s ring camera stopping next to the victim vehicle, but the suspect and license plate were not visible.
Shoplifting – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls).
At 7:32 PM, officers responded to a shoplifter in custody. The subject was later released on a citation.
August 27th
Shoplift – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshall’s):
At 2:07 PM, an unidentified suspect stole merchandise and fled toward Starbucks.
Shoplifting/Warrant Arrest/Petty Theft with Priors – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls).
At 8:13 PM, officers responded to a shoplifter in custody. The subject was arrested and also found to have a warrant for their arrest. The subject also qualified for petty theft with priors. The subject was transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Armed Robbery – Blake Street/Richmond Street:
At 6:38 PM, officers responded to an armed robbery which had taken place the day prior. The victim reported four suspects, who arrived in a car, robbed him at gun point.
August 28th
Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Hit and Run - 5800 block of Alta Punta Avenue:
At 8:36 AM, an officer reports that the victim was involved in a verbal argument with the suspect at another location. The suspect followed the victim to their home. As the victim exited their vehicle, the suspect accelerated their vehicle forward, striking the victim before fleeing the scene.
Fraud – 11400 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 1:36 PM, an officer reports that the victim's accounts were flagged for fraudulent transactions by the bank.
Battery/Criminal Threats – San Pablo Avenue/Hill Street:
At 3:14 PM, an officer reports that the victim was driving for a ride share company when they picked up the suspect from the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station. The victim and suspect exited the BART lot and were in a verbal argument. The suspect threw a bottle hitting the victim and threatened to cause additional harm to the victim. The suspect was taken into custody, transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking, and later released with a citation.
August 29th
Public Intoxication – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 8:49 PM, officers responded to Safeway for an unwanted intoxicated subject. Officers contacted the subject and determined they were too intoxicated and unable to care for themself. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
