Due to ongoing power outages following recent severe storms, M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is activating cooling centers across the county today and tomorrow to provide residents with a cool, comfortable place while power is being restored.
Emergency Weather Centers
The following facilities will operate as Emergency Weather Centers from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm today, Saturday, September 5, and tomorrow, Sunday, September 6:
- Langley Park Community Center
- Palmer Park Community Center
- Upper Marlboro Community Center
Regular Cooling Centers
M-NCPPC's regular cooling centers will also be available today and tomorrow during normal business hours.
Residents impacted by power outages are encouraged to use these locations as needed to cool down, recharge, and take a break from conditions at home.
The Department will continue to monitor storm-related impacts and assess conditions to determine the need for continued cooling center operations and additional resources for residents.
Storm-Related Closures
The following parks and facilities remain closed due to storm-related impacts:
- Watkins Regional Park
- Cedar Heights Community Center
- Cedar Park Heights Park
- J. Franklyn Bourne Memorial Pool
Reopened: Columbia Park Community Center, Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center, Oakcrest Community Center, Patuxent Community Center, Peppermill Community Center, and Seat Pleasant Activity Center.
Riversdale House Museum remains closed through Sunday, September 6.
M-NCPPC crews continue working throughout the park system to clear trees, fallen limbs, leaves, and other storm-related debris. Residents and visitors should use extreme caution and follow all posted signage, barricades, and staff instructions.
