The upcoming session of the Department of Public Safety’s Community Workshop will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at William Mobile Ashby Community Care and Training Center, 695 Bergen Street, Newark..
During the workshop, which is offered weekly through November 12, 2026, participants will gain insights into the operations of the Newark Police and Fire divisions and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). Attendees will get a glimpse into how Newark Police Division officers are trained, how deployment decisions are made, how the dispatch center operates, and how calls for service are prioritized. The group will also receive training in crime prevention, gang awareness, and domestic violence.
From the Fire Division’s training section, Workshop participants will gain insights into how to devise a fire escape plan, how arson investigations are conducted, and the proper use of a fire extinguisher.
