On September 6, 2026, at 9:48 p.m. Deputy Wyatt Hunt stopped a Black 2005 Yamaha XVS motorcycle for speeding on Morton Avenue in Oakland City. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Hunt observed multiple clues that the driver 28-year-old Dakota Bayer of Petersburg was under the influence of alcohol. At that point Deputy Hunt conducted a roadside DUI investigation that resulted in Mr. Bayer being taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Detention Center. Upon arriving at the detention center Mr. Bayer was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated With a Prior Conviction.
Deputy Shawn Holmes and Oakland City Officer Ty Schmittler assisted Deputy Hunt in his investigation.
