High-Speed Driving Incident Leads to Arrest of Felon in Possession of Unlawful Ammunition

DATE/TIME: Sunday, September 6, 2026, at approximately 9:41 p.m.

INCIDENT: CVC 23103(A) - Reckless Driving
CVC 23109(A) - Illegal Speed Contest
PC 30305(A)(1) - Felon in Possession of Unlawful Ammunition

LOCATION: North K Street and Needles Hwy, Needles, CA 

SUSPECT(S): Freddy Montoya, 38-years-old, Resident of Mohave Valley, AZ

VICTIM(S): State of California


SUMMARY: On Sunday, September 6, 2026, at approximately 9:41 p.m., deputies assigned to the Colorado River Station/Needles Police Department observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood of North K Street. During the incident, deputies observed the vehicle continue past Needles Highway, driving eratically and continued over the Needles bridge into Arizona.  As a result, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection of River Highway and Courtwright Rd.  

Upon contact, deputies determined the driver, Freddy Montoya was a convicted felon and was subject to search terms.  Upon a search of the vehicle, deputies located unlawful ammunition in Monyoya's possession.

As a result, Freddy Montoya was arrested for CVC 23103(A) - Reckless Driving, CVC 23109(A) - Illegal Speed Contest and PC 30305(A)(1) - Felon in Possession of Unlawful Ammunition.  Montoya remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department with a bail amount of $30,000.00, awaiting a court hearing.  This investigation is on-going.
