Bergen County will host two days of remembrance marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, including a special commemorative Memorial Vigil on Thursday evening and the County’s Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday.

In recognition of this significant anniversary, the County will host a special 25th Anniversary Memorial Vigil on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Amphitheater at Overpeck County Park.  The evening will feature musical accompaniment by the New Jersey Wind Symphony, as well as special performances by American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis, who will perform the National Anthem and “Amazing Grace.”  The vigil will culminate in a candle lighting ceremony and moment of silence.

The County will then hold its Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11 at 3:30 p.m. at the Bergen County 9/11 Monument in Overpeck County Park. Held each year on the anniversary of the attacks, the ceremony provides an opportunity for Bergen County to gather at its permanent memorial to remember the residents who were lost and reflect upon the lasting impact September 11 has had on families and communities throughout the County.

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 claimed 2,977 lives and forever changed the nation. Bergen County suffered an especially profound loss, with 147 County residents killed in the attacks. In the hours, days, and months that followed, first responders from throughout Bergen County traveled to Ground Zero, serving with extraordinary courage, bravery, and selflessness.
