On Sunday, September 6, 2026 at about 10:15 p.m., a Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) officer observed a vehicle with two occupants in the area of Central Expressway and Corvin Drive. After observing a violation, the officer followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle, and the officer contacted them on the side of the road. Both individuals followed the Officer’s verbal commands at the scene and no force was used during the contact.
Moments later, the adult male passenger had a medical emergency at the scene. Officers provided immediate medical assistance until Santa Clara Fire Department personnel arrived and continued life-saving measures. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Consistent with the Santa Clara County Officer-Involved Incident Protocol, SCPD notified the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the agencies are conducting a joint investigation. This remains an active and open investigation and as the investigation progresses, we expect to provide further updates.
