SUMMARY: On Thursday, September 10, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., deputies and detectives from the Yucaipa Station served a residential search warrant in the city of Moreno Valley related to an active check fraud investigation.
The investigation began in late August 2026, when detectives learned of check fraud occurring at a local medical facility in Yucaipa. The victim and owner suspected an employee of the business, Alisa Yuko Anne Sugawara of Moreno Valley, of fraudulently depositing business checks into her own personal bank account totaling $35K. Detectives obtained probable cause that led to an arrest warrant being issued for Sugawara.
During service of the warrant, detectives contacted Sugawara at her residence and arrested her without incident. Sugawara was booked into the Central Detention Center on charges of Penal Code 476 - (check fraud), Penal Code 487 - (grand theft), and Penal Code 503 - (embezzlement), and is currently being held on $75K bail.
