Coordinated Encampment Cleanup Operation a Success as 15 Cubic Yards of Waste is Removed from Flood Control Channel

DATE/TIME: September 10, 2026 / 8:00 A.M.

INCIDENT: Collaborative Encampment Cleanup

LOCATION: 2500 Block of W. 3rd Avenue, San Bernardino

SUMMARY: The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Service & Reentry Division (CSRD), in partnership with the Work Release Division, Emerging Technologies, Public Affairs, and San Bernardino County Public Works, conducted a coordinated encampment cleanup operation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in a flood control channel located in the 2500 block of W. 3rd Avenue, in the unincorporated area of San Bernardino.

The collaborative effort resulted in the removal of approximately 15 cubic yards of waste; roughly the equivalent of a full dump truck, from the flood control channel, helping improve the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the surrounding community.

A key component of the operation was the utilization of individuals assigned to court-mandated Work Release, providing an opportunity for them to fulfill their court obligations while making a meaningful contribution to the community. The partnership demonstrates how court-ordered community service can provide a tangible benefit to residents of San Bernardino County while supporting the operational needs of local government agencies. This operation is an excellent example of what can be accomplished when County departments work together toward a common goal. Individuals completing their court-mandated Work Release were able to give back to the community while providing valuable assistance to Public Works.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department remains committed to partnerships that promote accountability, community service, rehabilitation, and meaningful contributions to the communities it serves.
