Petaluma Police Arrest Wanted Felony Suspect Following Foot Pursuit

On September 13, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a Petaluma Police officer was on patrol near the 1000 block of Petaluma Boulevard North when the officer observed Francisco Perez (34-year-old Petaluma Resident) walking in the area. The officer recognized Perez as having an outstanding felony warrant issued by the Sonoma County Superior Court.

The warrant stemmed from a prior incident in which Perez was arrested for resisting a peace officer.

The officer contacted Perez, who initially stopped and spoke with the officer. During the contact, Perez shoved the officer and fled on foot into a nearby business. Officers pursued Perez into the business, where he actively resisted their attempts to take him into custody. During the struggle, Perez punched a second officer in the face.

An officer on scene deployed a Taser device, which enabled officers to safely gain control of Perez and take him into custody.

Perez was arrested on the following charges:

  • Felony Warrant
  • Resisting a Peace Officer- 69(a) PC
  • Battery on a Peace Officer – 243(b) PC
Following the Taser deployment, the Petaluma Fire Department responded to evaluate Perez at the scene. Perez was then transported to a local hospital prior to being transported to the Sonoma County Jail.

We are thankful that no officers were seriously injured as a result of this incident. The Petaluma Police Department remains committed to safely taking wanted offenders into custody while protecting the community.
