GBPD Updates Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Policy; Public Invited to Comment on Drafted Revisions for 30-Day Period

The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is inviting Green Bay residents to comment on its newly drafted and revised Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Policy as the department currently remains committed to the value of utilizing the crime reduction tool.

Public opinions on Policy 424 can be shared through October 14, 2026, in an online form: https://gb.readyop.com/fs/4fl7/a9c45f33

The revised policy, which increases privacy protection, includes: a reduced data retention period from 30 days to 7 days, after which data shall be permanently deleted from the system, stricter requirements for searches and hot lists requiring a case or call number, limited data sharing with outside law enforcement agencies, expanded public reporting with a monthly report that is to be posted to the GBPD website of https://www.gbpolice.org, and regular monthly audits to be completed by the 15th of the following calendar month to ensure ALPR technology is used appropriately.
