On September 16, 2026, at approximately 2:56 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of a battery that had occurred in the 7000 block of South 1100 East in the rural Mackey area. Deputy Wes Baumgart met with one of the parties at the Oakland City Police Department collecting their statement and documenting evidence. Once the interview was completed multiple law enforcement went to the residence to speak to the other party.
Upon arriving at the residence there was a brief standoff before 34-year-old Caleb Thorne was taken into custody. Mr. Thorne would not cooperate with the investigation, and search warrant was applied for and upon being signed by a judge executed. Once the investigation was completed Mr. Thorne was transported to the Gibson County Detention Center where he was charged with:
Confinement
Strangulation
Battery- Bodily Waste-Felony
2 counts of Domestic Battery
Intimidation
Deputy Wyatt Lashbrook and Oakland City Officer Ty Schmittler assisted Deputy Baumgart in his investigation.
