| On September 5, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Headquarters Deputies responded to the Ventura County Commissary, located in the 2500 block of Cortez Street, after a burglary was reported. Deputies learned an unknown male suspect had entered the property and stole two generators. During the investigation, deputies also discovered that an additional food truck had been entered and cash had been stolen. With the assistance of food truck vendors at the commissary, deputies obtained surveillance video showing the suspect and the vehicle used during the burglary. Headquarters Detectives responded to assist with processing the crime scene and began following up on the available evidence. Detectives and deputies canvassed the surrounding area and located additional surveillance footage capturing the suspect and his vehicle before and after the burglary. Detectives quickly utilized the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system to identify the vehicle’s license plate. Through their investigation, Headquarters Detectives identified the suspect as Rogelio Negrete, an Oxnard resident with a prior history of theft-related offenses. On September 15, 2026, Headquarters Detectives located Negrete driving the suspect vehicle in the area of the 2600 block of Saviers Road in the City of Oxnard. Detectives conducted a traffic stop after observing vehicle code violations. As the investigation continued, detectives authored and obtained a search warrant for Negrete, his vehicle, and his residence. The search warrant was subsequently served, and detectives recovered evidence linking Negrete to the Ventura County Commissary burglary. Negrete was arrested for violations of Vehicle Code section 10852, unlawful tampering with a vehicle; Penal Code section 487(a), grand theft; Penal Code section 484(a), petty theft; and Penal Code section 602(k)(1), trespass with intent to interfere. Negrete was booked into the Ventura County Jail on the aforementioned charges. Negrete has since posted bail and was released from custody. This investigation also revealed that this was the second burglary reported at the Ventura County Commissary within a two-day period. Headquarters Deputies responded to a separate burglary at the commissary the previous day. Although the two burglaries are similar in nature, surveillance video indicates the incidents involved different suspects. Detectives continue to investigate the first burglary and have gathered evidence that has brought them close to identifying the suspect responsible. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office takes crimes such as these seriously, particularly when hardworking members of our community are targeted. Local businesses and food truck operators work hard to serve the community, and thefts and burglaries can have a significant impact on their livelihood. Headquarters Detectives will continue to follow up on all available leads and work to identify those responsible for these crimes. The investigation into the first Ventura County Commissary burglary remains ongoing. |
