INCIDENT: Man Critically Injured in Stabbing at Hesperia Encampment
LOCATION: E Avenue and Hercules Street, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): David Ortiz, 43-year-old, Resident of Hesperia
VICTIM: 52-year-old Male, Resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Hesperia Station Deputies responded to the area of E Avenue and Hercules Street, in the City of Hesperia regarding a report of a male subject who had been stabbed. The incident occurred within an encampment occupied by unhoused individuals.
Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency Personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim by air, to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect was identified as David Ortiz, who was located at the scene, and in possession of a knife. Ortiz was transported to the High Desert Detention Center and booked for PC 664/187 - Attempted Murder, PC 245(a)(1) - Assault with a deadly weapon, and PC 422 - Criminal Threats.
