The Wilmington Police Department is sharing information regarding a ceremony taking place this morning at the Wilmington-Brandywine Cemetery (701 Delaware Avenue).
 
As part of this ceremony, a musket salute will take place between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., and we are sharing this information to make the public aware in advance.

As part of ongoing semiquincentennial celebrations, the City of Wilmington will host a historic memorial ceremony honoring and naming Revolutionary War soldiers buried in a mass grave at Wilmington-Brandywine Cemetery. The grave contains the remains of at least 66 soldiers: 28 Americans from the Rhode Island Regiment and 38 British soldiers. Among the Americans are 14 African American men, four of whom enlisted while enslaved.
 
Nearly 250 years later, 33 of the soldiers have been identified by name, including all 28 Rhode Island soldiers and five British officers, and will finally be formally remembered with the unveiling of a permanent memorial bearing their names.
